Micro-architecture

Glossary

Micro-architecture

Micro-architecture refers to small objects of tabletop design whose design has been influenced by architectural forms.

The objects produced for the table play with the scale and dimensions of buildings as well as with architectural details such as columns and gables. The impetus for the symbiotic inspiration of architecture and product design came from Alberto Alessi when he developed his “Tea and Coffee Piazza” project in 1979: he persuaded eleven architects to design tea and coffee sets presented on a tray, the piazza, as an architectural ensemble.
