In technology and industrial design, the term “prototype” describes the experimental model of a new development.
It is a dimensionally accurate, functional or simplified example of the planned component or product which externally or technically corresponds to the end product. In product design, the prototype is a crucial developmental step. It is designed to allow the practical properties and characteristics to be tested. If a prototype is created immediately before serial production, a pilot run is often carried out which serves as a final practical test.
