Re-edition

Glossary

Re-edition

The term “re-edition” is used in furniture and textile design in particular to describe the re-issuing of an older industrial product based on original designs.

The intention is to adhere to the original as closely as possible. In the 1960s, a host of companies acquired the rights to issue re-editions of classic items of furniture, whose originals were for the most part located in museums and private collections. In 1962, Thonet launched its first re-editions with furniture by Marcel Breuer. Other manufacturers such as Cassina, Knoll, and Zanotta launched re-editions by designers such as Le Corbusier, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Giuseppe Terragni.
