Industrial design and product design are collective terms for the creative process when planning and designing industrially manufactured, mass-produced products.
The industrial designer does not design one-off items but products which are manufactured using mass-production techniques. He commonly works on commission for a manufacturer, and takes into account the feasibility of his design in the industrial manufacturing process. Customer expectations of the product also play a key role. Product design is situated between the areas of applied art, engineering science, ergonomics, and marketing.
