The ED1 sunglasses are made from natural acetate derived from cellulose (cotton). Dried cotton is first ground, treated with acetic acid, and then colored and shaped into solid sheets, from which the frames are cut, milled, and polished. The case is the first in the world made from EPP, with 15% consisting of recycled fishing nets and ropes. Additionally, this PP-based material is composed of 80% air, making it particularly resource-efficient, 100% recyclable, lightweight, impact-resistant, water- and UV-resistant. The hinges are made of pure titanium.
The ED1 achieves its distinctive form through a double-layer midplate technique at the connection to the temples, eliminating the side joints and rivets typical of acetate glasses. This innovation allows for the precise positioning of the hinge connections and closing blocks in the side temple area without protruding elements. The harmonious silhouette is further enhanced by G2 continuity of the curve design. As a result, the glasses maintain a calm, minimal, and understated look, despite the slightly larger frame size.
