USB-Stick DTSE9

Designed in 2013, DTSE 9 has become one of the most widely produced and widely copied USB flash drives in the world. Its reduced design language and the consistent integration of all functions into a single metal component have had a lasting influence on the product category.

As one of the first USB flash drives manufactured entirely from metal, DTSE 9 combined the housing and connector into one continuous form. The result was a robust, precise, and highly recognizable design that clearly differentiated itself from the plastic-based products common at the time.

A defining feature of the design is its large circular opening, allowing the drive to be attached directly to keychains and other objects without requiring additional accessories such as key rings, cords, or holders. This simple yet highly functional solution was later adopted by numerous manufacturers.

Shortly after its market introduction, many competing products appeared with similar design characteristics. Today, the combination of a reduced metal body and a distinctive circular opening has become one of the most recognizable design archetypes in the USB storage category.
